The reason why Scotland is a must see!

The Top 10 Best Regions to visit in 2019

Recently, I came across an article of the BBC that listed the 10 Top Regions to visit in 2019 according to Lonely Planet. Among all these different destinations, the Scottish Highlands and Islands are featured as number fifth in the list. So, why is Scotland a must see in 2019?

According to Lonely Planet, the Highlands and its Islands are seen as the wildest, least inhabited and most scenic parts of Europe. The Scottish region offers travelers magnificent landscapes, unpredictable weather, and local food as well as drinks. It is possible to follow the North Coast 500 drive as well as the North East 250 to plan a trip and view all these beautiful landscapes. Another must-see is one of Scotland’s many castles, the 13th century Eilean Donan Castle in the Highlands. One of the famous Isle is the Isle of Skye with the Old Man of Storr, the Quiraing and its sea cliffs (new post with pictures of the visit to the Isle of Skye will be in March). If you are in for a challenge, you could climb the highest Munro of Britain, Ben Nevis. Nevertheless, there is so much to see, definitely worth a visit.

Besides the Highlands, there is much more to see and do in Scotland. If you are here around New Year, there is Edinburgh’s Hogmanay with beautiful fireworks. Another celebration is Burns Night on the 25th of January. On that day, the birthday of Robert Burns is celebrated with a formal Burns Supper and some of his poems are recited and tribute to him. If you are in Glasgow, there is one of the leading UK film festivals around the end of February-beginning of March. Don’t miss out and experience the best international movies. Or if you find yourself around August in the capital of Scotland, there is the three weeks Fringe festival. This is the biggest celebration of arts and culture.  With more than 3000 shows and 53.000 performances, there is enough reason to find something you like and check it out. It has big names to small names and you can find out more by clicking on the link: Edinburgh Fringe

This is just as small fragment of all the activities, hike trails, sight-seeing, festivals etc. that can be undertaken in Scotland. If you got the time, try to visit Scotland and see with your own eyes why it belongs in the top 10 of Best Regions to visit in 2019.
